The wall sit exercise is often overlooked as a leg exercise due to its simplicity in nature.
In terms of exercise, we often associate exercises of a more complex and advanced nature with superior effectiveness. We tend to saturate our workouts with a small bunch of ‘Instafamous’ exercises, like loaded squats and deadlifts.
However, amongst all the impressive exercises that exist, the discrete wall sit has quite a few benefits that other more commonly performed leg exercises can’t provide.
What Is the Wall Sit?
For those of you who are not familiar with the wall sit, this is an exercise done over a period of time rather than a specific amount of repetitions. The wall sit requires you to hold yourself in a seated position, (hence the name) for a certain amount of time, normally between 30 to 60 seconds. It predominantly works your glutes, quads, hamstrings …and your pain threshold.
A handy feature of the wall sit is that you require no exercise to perform it – perfect for doing at home! All you need is a wall or any other vertical surface to lean against and you’re good to go!

There’s a lot of us out here pressing through daily to lose, maintain and/or not gain an ounce. But when diet and exercise doesn’t work we search for other ways to reshape our bodies. Over the years I’ve seen my body go up, down and sideways. It’s been very frustrating. Recently, I’ve looked in the mirror and have not been pleased in what I see. The fight of insecurity’s battle is painstaking and monotonous. If only there were an antidote to resolve this with just one snap of the finger I’d jump for joy and snap my fingers as much as I could to resolving all of them (smile).
So, the “GIVING UP” alternative … yes, this, like surgery, can be extreme! We are creatures who need positive results! No doubt about that! If all we did failed and nothing came into fruition we would have given up life long ago. Yes, life! There has to be something to encourage to keep fighting for something otherwise what are we fighting for? To lose? I don’t think so. Between wrestling with insecurities, outward struggles, and all else I would have ridden my life off. Selfishness would have been embraced and ending my life would have been a joy!
Why keep trying? This frustrating blog about natural ways to reshaping our body is also about reshaping our thinking. My typical conclusion, but, befitting nonetheless since my whole approach is — Mirror’s Reflect! I want to reflect that IT WILL HAPPEN! We may not be able to take two steps tomorrow but we will be thankful for the one while we work on the two. God only knows that perseverance NEED His touch! It’s a sanctioning if you will. So, keep the press!
